Electricity powered the machine, making it hum: the hairdryer blew hot air, drying the wet strands of hair.
Chu Muge, in a thin white shirt, her black hair loose, carefully dried Gu Yao's hair.
"All done." She cheerfully twirled a few strands of Gu Yao's hair, sniffing them.
The faint scent of soap and shampoo filled her nose, making Chu Muge squint in delight. "You are very clean now."
Brushing teeth, bathing, drying hair, changing clothes.
So clean, it was hard to tell if she was a zombie or a human.
The dim light in the room was sleepy, a warm hue making people drowsy.
This sleepy light blurred the figures, making Chu Muge subconsciously overlook Gu Yao's gray eyes and pale lips, as if a living person stood before her.
Her heart raced.
Chu Muge reached out, caressing Gu Yao's cheek, murmuring, "senior, you're so beautiful."
Gu Yao watched her, unamused. Chu Muge's eyes seemed ready to pop hearts.
Chu Muge continued, "I've decided, from now on, it'll be just you and me. We won't mingle with others."
Avoiding human settlements, living like recluses.
With her strength, as long as she didn't court death, she could live well.
Gu Yao was unsure what to think.
Chu Muge's idea might be good, but Gu Yao wanted to know why she was here, why she retained her mind as a zombie.
She feared death, but more so feared becoming a mindless zombie.
A voice seemed to tell her: if she did nothing, she'd become a mindless creature like those outside.
So she couldn't just wait.
But now, all her sounds were just chaotic growls, unable to communicate with Chu Muge.
Chu Muge spoke softly, "Senpai, I really like you..."
She sighed, paused, "Did you ever kiss someone?"
Gu Yao was confused. What?
Before she could react, she felt soft lips on hers.
A serpentine tongue explored, savoring the forbidden fruit.
It was a dance, tongues entwined, tasting the sweetness. Chu Muge's fingers traced Gu Yao's neck, meeting behind her head, holding her light skull.
A one-sided entanglement.
Gu Yao, still confused, instinctively let her zombie nature take over, biting hard, trying to sever Chu Muge's tongue.
But as soon as blood filled her mouth, the biting stopped, like hitting the brakes, her muscles tense, unable to move further.
Chu Muge, wincing in pain, continued the deep kiss, her eyes sparkling with joy.
It felt like the person she longed for finally opened up.
The joy of being chosen and loved filled her mind, making her dizzy.
Zombies don't lack oxygen; the suffocating kiss lasted long, ending suddenly, signaling the dance's end.
Chu Muge lifted Gu Yao's head, seeing crystal droplets at her lips, blending into her hairline, her eyes squinting in delight.
Gu Yao's gray pupils were unfocused, lost after the deep kiss, looking frantic and disoriented.
But Chu Muge liked this disarray.
She smiled, wiping the droplet from Gu Yao's lips, whispering, "Senior, you're so cute like this."
Gu Yao thought: Once I can control my body and speak, I'll bite you to death.
Lights off, sleep.
The curtain was open, moonlight casting a soft glow, covering them in starlight.
The world was quiet, the once lively people now mindless zombies, making the outside world deathly silent.
But Chu Muge found a unique peace in this stillness.
She lay in bed, holding Gu Yao, her face buried in her chest, a sense of security washing over her.
In the apocalypse, they nestled in a small apartment, where safety and danger coexisted, relaxation and tension intertwined. Sleeping inside, while zombies were wandering outside.
Chu Muge blinked, lifting her face, unsure if she was talking to Gu Yao or herself, "The clothes are too small."
She had dressed Gu Yao in her own shirt, a white one, but it was too small: Gu Yao was more developed, the buttons barely containing her.
Gu Yao: ... No comment.
"It's okay, in a few days, we'll go to the mall."
Chu Muge muttered, hugging Gu Yao, starting to doze off, "But first... we have to solve a problem..."
Almost immediately after she spoke, a wail sounded outside.
Chu Muge's eyes snapped open, she got up calmly, and walked to the window.
Speak of the devil.
Through the second-floor window, she saw a large figure walking slowly down the road, wailing like crying.
It grabbed a wandering zombie and bit off its head: thick black blood gushed out, the headless body flailing before going limp.
The head was an appetizer, followed by the body as the main course.
The body was swallowed, bones crunching with a chilling sound.
The bloated figure laughed deeply, then sobbed again.
Have you heard a whale cry?
From a distance, its bloated figure blurred in the moonlight, its exact appearance hidden.
Chu Muge watched expressionlessly for a moment before closing the window and drawing the curtains.
This thing needs to be dealt with sooner or later.
Just wait.
She glanced at Gu Yao lying on the bed, a smile flickering in her eyes.
After all, if she wanted her senior to mutate and evolve...
She'd need it.
