The shampoo is on the third floor.
Although the supermarket had no lights, it is still daytime, and sunlight streams through the windows, illuminating floating dust particles in the air. It’s not so dim as to be completely dark.
Chu Muge hummed a little tune as she browsed leisurely, holding a basket in one hand, looking utterly relaxed.
There weren’t many zombies in the supermarket, so they posed no real threat. Most of them had been taken down by Gu Yao, leaving Chu Muge with little to do.
“I really like this shampoo.”
Chu Muge’s eyes sparkled as she held up a rose-scented shampoo. “Senior used to use this one.”
Gu Yao glanced indifferently at the dark red packaging.
“I’ve smelled it a lot.”
Chu Muge said, “It’s so distinct that I remembered it.”
She would never forget how Gu Yao smelled or her presence.
The supermarket was messy, with shelves toppled over and spilling out a jumble of random items.
Chu Muge put only the essentials into her basket and nodded toward Gu Yao. “This should be enough. Let’s go.”
But after saying that, she hesitated. “Wait a moment.”
Chu Muge blinked at Gu Yao. “Let’s look around the third floor a bit more.”
Aside from toiletries, the third floor also had various snacks.
After the apocalypse broke out, it seemed that no one here had survived, leaving even the food largely untouched.
Chu Muge’s gaze swept over the shelves until she stopped in one spot, her eyes lighting up.
Reaching out, she grabbed a pack of vacuum-sealed beef jerky and waved it in front of Gu Yao.
Gu Yao looked at her expressionlessly, showing no particular reaction.
“Senior, do you want to try it?”
She offered the beef jerky toward Gu Yao, who lowered her gaze and eventually took it.
“We could try it. If you… if you think it’s okay…”
Glancing at the other person, Gu Yao noticed Chu Muge’s slightly nervous gaze. Without a word, she tore open the packaging, took out a piece of beef jerky, and slightly parted her lips.
Crunch.
She bit down but couldn’t break it at once.
Unwilling to give up, Gu Yao tightened her grip on the jerky and began tugging at it with her teeth. The jerky stretched longer and longer until it finally snapped.
Holding the broken piece in her hand, Gu Yao chewed expressionlessly. When she noticed Chu Muge still watching her, she slightly raised her eyes, unsure what kind of reaction she should express.
It was chewy, barely edible, but it did have a faint meaty flavor.
She couldn’t fully taste it. Fresh meat was definitely better.
Still, it wasn’t entirely bad. It was like eating flavorless mochi, if you chewed it long enough, it developed a unique charm.
After chewing thoughtfully, the culinary critic Gu Yao swallowed it down and gave Chu Muge a thumbs-up.
Chu Muge: OvO
Now it was time to bathe, there really weren’t many luxuries left in this world.
After gathering a change of clothes, Gu Yao directed the zombies to the second floor, leaving herself and Chu Muge alone on the third.
“This has got to be the most extravagant thing I’ve ever done,” Chu Muge remarked as she unscrewed a bottle of mineral water and poured it into a basin.
“I’m going to get struck down for this.”
Using such precious water resources to clean themselves was almost sacrilegious.
The supermarket had a wide variety of supplies. With a basin, towels, and shampoo ready, the only discomfort was the bone-chilling cold water.
But Chu Muge, being a superhuman, had a physical resilience far beyond that of ordinary people. As for Gu Yao, she didn’t even seem to feel the difference, to her, it was no different from a hot shower.
Unfortunately, no matter how tough superhumans were, they still had to bow before zombies.
Cold water ran over her skin, and Chu Muge shivered, taking a deep breath before grabbing a towel.
The purple fluid had solidified into hard patches on her clothes. Chu Muge scrubbed carefully, washing away every last trace of the sticky residue before drying off and changing towels. She then glanced over at Gu Yao.
The other person, having thoroughly cleaned herself, displayed her shapely and alluring figure with a casual confidence that sent ripples through Chu Muge’s composure. Sitting calmly, completely unashamed, she stared directly at Chu Muge.
Even Chu Muge couldn’t help but feel embarrassed.
Her gaze wandered as she coughed lightly and asked, “Senior… do you need me to help you wash up?”
Gu Yao didn’t respond or move.
The girl slowly approached, her fingertips brushing against Gu Yao’s skin through the towel.
To be honest, in some ways, Gu Yao resembled a life-sized… well, let’s just say she was pliant and allowed Chu Muge to do whatever she wanted. As her fingers passed over more sensitive areas, they even grazed two faint blushes of color.
Chu Muge was falling more in love with bathing than ever before.
When Gu Yao walked out of the supermarket, not only had she changed into clean clothes, but she was also carrying a bag of supplies.
Beef jerky.
To be precise, Chu Muge was holding a large bag as well.
It seemed they had taken nearly all the vacuum-sealed meat products in the supermarket. They had planned to try their luck on the first floor, but it was clear that with no power, the frozen chicken and pork had long since gone bad.
There was a twinge of regret, but Chu Muge loaded all the vacuum-packed food into the trunk and sighed.
“Senior, I promise I’ll make sure you get to eat something fresh and lively one day.”
Gu Yao: ?
Fresh and lively?
She could already picture herself chasing a chicken around, ending up with a mouthful of feathers.
After getting into the SUV, there was a soft thud as the door closed.
Gu Yao, holding a piece of beef jerky in her mouth, watched as Chu Muge stepped on the gas. Then she turned her head to glance at the zombie dog.
The dog, now fully recovered, wagged its tail eagerly when it noticed Gu Yao looking at it.
Gu Yao had just moved to act when she heard Chu Muge’s cold, biting voice:
“Feed it yourself.”
The tone was laced with irritation. Gu Yao inwardly rolled her eyes, turning her head away with a faint smirk.
Tch, petty little thing.
The beef jerky became an outlet for her suppressed annoyance as she bit and tore at it relentlessly.
Thanks to Chu Muge, Gu Yao was now the only zombie queen who didn’t eat human flesh and instead indulged in beef jerky. Among the other zombie queens, she was undoubtedly the oddest.
Every zombie queen of the future had their quirks, but to her peers, Gu Yao’s were extreme, eschewing human flesh and consorting with humans. It was as bizarre as a certain wolf that loved bananas and sheep.
Elsewhere, a horde of zombies clashed violently.
They flung themselves at each other, jaws snapping viciously as they fought with feral determination to assert their dominance.
Nerves and sinews snapped, blood and flesh entwined.
Chunks of flesh-stained limbs fell to the ground, twitching faintly before lying still.
At one point, the last zombie was absorbed into the mass of writhing flesh formed from the remains of its fallen kin.
The grotesque lump of flesh began to shrink, its form collapsing in on itself. In the end, it spread out on the ground like a pool of melted ice cream.
Plop, plop...
The flesh carpet squirmed.
Glimmers of crimson light flickered intermittently across the dark surface, though the light was gradually fading.
After a few minutes, the glimmers grew weaker until they disappeared entirely, leaving the flesh blanket pitch-black and deathly still.
Plop.
A sudden flash of crimson light streaked across.
Plop, plop...
The light grew brighter, gradually reanimating the squirming flesh.
The once-black surface began shifting toward a pale pink hue before finally turning blood red, the same shade as the glowing light.
The flesh carpet writhed once more.
It was alive again.
