Chapter 15: Gu Yao was frightened

Gu Yao felt a bit nauseous; she wanted to vomit.

She had actually eaten something that had been dug out of someone's brain. qwq

Ugh!

Unfortunately, wanting to throw up and being able to throw up are two different things.

In moments like this, it's better to think positively: actually, this thing, um, it tasted pretty good.

The only downside was its size, it was as big as a bottle cap. But Gu Yao had a strong will since childhood, and with Chu Muge's encouraging gaze, she swallowed it down.

Once in her stomach, her whole body felt like it had been cleansed with holy water, warm and comfortable, making her feel refreshed and clear-headed, as if everything had suddenly become clear.

Wow, it felt like a rejuvenation perk for seniors.

She wanted to eat another one.

Gu Yao: …

Better not.

To reach the commercial district, the two had to walk to the end of the street.

Originally, it was the habitat of a fat mutant, blocking the path between the street and the commercial district, like an obstacle. Now, without its owner, it had become a convenient passageway for Gu Yao and Chu Muge to reach the commercial district directly.

When Gu Yao passed through, she could even see piles of broken bones and rotten meat on the ground.

This was a place untouched by light, breeding darkness.

Leaving there and arriving at a new area, it looked different from the surroundings near the school. The broken road had very obvious bullet marks.

The road had been violently smashed into a straight line, some unlucky vehicles were crushed into flat metal sheets, as if something had forcibly rolled over them. Despite the bullet marks everywhere, strangely, no remains were found, only dried blood stains all over.

The drying was interrupted by a recent rain that washed away many traces. Before the rain, this place would have been a hell on earth, with blood everywhere.

Undoubtedly, the area had been cleared by the military, but…

Where were the bodies?

Chu Muge frowned, looking at the empty road, lost in thought.

After a while, perhaps unable to think of anything, Chu Muge whimpered and hugged Gu Yao's arm, tearfully saying, "I'm sorry, senior. I don't know what's going on here either. I chose to follow the military before…"

This time, choosing to stay and find Gu Yao was a new path, and no one knew what would happen on this road.

The journey was eerily quiet, not a single zombie or human body appeared on the road. However, although there were no dead, they did find a living one.

Chu Muge spotted a wobbly figure through the window of a shop with a closed door.

A forgotten zombie.

The military, while advancing, would clear out surrounding zombies, so missing a few was normal.

But what surprised Chu Muge was that the zombie, wearing a work uniform, wobbled to the door and then… opened it.

Chu Muge: ?

A trace of vigilance crossed her eyes.

A mutant?

Mutants were smarter than other zombies, so it wasn't surprising that they could open doors.

But…

She watched as the zombie opened the door, then after a moment of silence, closed it and walked back, with a large question mark above its head.

Unable to contain her curiosity, Chu Muge pursed her lips, then took Gu Yao's hand and walked to the shop.

"Moshi moshi~ Is anyone there?"

She knocked on the door symbolically, then kicked it open and locked eyes with the zombie inside.

Silence.

An interested gaze.

After a few seconds, the zombie, standing like a statue, suddenly began to tremble, then opened its gaping maw and lunged at her.

Chu Muge frowned, swung her knife, and with the power of an early-stage ability user, decapitated the zombie with one blow.

Watching the black, viscous blood oozing from the headless body, Chu Muge squinted her eyes, seemingly trying to find something from it.

…It seemed like an ordinary zombie. What was going on?

Gu Yao, nearby, shifted her gaze guiltily.

Time rewinded a bit, back to when the two had just arrived at the road.

Gu Yao felt capable again.

It was like this: she was bored and wanted to see if she could activate the "Zawarudo" she

had used on the big fat guy earlier. As expected, she succeeded without a hitch.

Tnote: Zawarudo is a stand ability from jojo( japanese manga/anime) the ability can stop the time. Author is big fan of anime as they used more japanese terms I guess.

The world turned gray, losing its color. Gu Yao looked at the motionless Chu Muge beside her and couldn't help but start grinning, then she realized…

She couldn't move either.

Gu Yao: …

Oh, she understood now. This ability was more like a mental storm, merely making the world in her perception seem frozen.

So how was she supposed to use this…

The surroundings were empty. Gu Yao scanned for a long time and didn't find a single target for her experiment.

Hmm… Chu Muge was out of the question; she had tried, and Chu Muge was out of the question.

Her gaze slowly moved and finally stopped at one place.

The shop.

The figure inside looked so kind and amiable…

Gu Yao: Ah! It's a zombie!! (-^〇^-)

The zombie in the work uniform stood by the window, clearly visible to Gu Yao.

Alright, alright, let me try

Staring, staring, staring…

Gu Yao stared at the zombie for a long time, just as she was about to give up, a faintly glowing thread finally emerged from the zombie's skull, twisting and turning shyly, but not coming towards her.

Gu Yao: ! Don’t be shy

Come out… come out… ( ? )?

As if hearing her words, the thread paused, then slowly extended, finally passing through the glass window and reaching Gu Yao, quickly piercing into her body.

Gu Yao originally thought she would experience intense pain again, but after waiting for a long time, apart from feeling a bit weak, nothing else seemed to happen.

But her world had undergone a drastic change.

It was a very peculiar feeling, like suddenly having two bodies, with different perspectives.

Looking through the window, Gu Yao could see herself and Chu Muge.

She had become the work uniform zombie! (-^〇^-)

But saying "become" wasn't accurate. Gu Yao could feel that the body she was controlling still had its own consciousness. Rather than having another body, it was more like she had invaded the other's brain and could command it.

There was a big difference between the two; for example, if Gu Yao's main body were shot, if she had another body, she wouldn't die, but if she were merely commanding, she would really die.

Gu Yao: …

It seemed she couldn't take it lightly.

Ahem, right.

She cleared her throat internally and then said:

【Open the door.】

At the same time, time resumed, colors filled the world again, the zombie moved, put its hand on the door handle, and then the previous scene unfolded.

The only unexpected part was… perhaps due to her newfound ability's weakness, the anger of the zombie's self-awareness broke through her control and, following its nature, it lunged at Chu Muge when they made eye contact.

But her perspective was still in it!

Thus, Gu Yao experienced firsthand what it was like to be decapitated by Chu Muge.

Chu Muge's eyes were cold, cool, and the motion of swinging the knife to decapitate her was quick, like killing a pig.

Maybe it was because Chu Muge had spoiled her, but Gu Yao was almost scared to death.

She had never seen Chu Muge look at her like that! So scary! qwq

"Senior, let's go, okay?"

Chu Muge's voice came softly.

Okay, okay, okay! qwq

Gu Yao turned around, obediently following Chu Muge like a Pokémon in follow mode.

In the darkness,

Something was squirming.
