In the dim light, the pungent gasoline trickled down the mutant’s smooth, fat skin, forming oily stains on the wet skin.
It sprawled on the stairs, its fat squeezed through the gaps between the railings, its filthy eyes staring at Chu Muge. Its gray-white eyeballs seemed like they were about to pop out, and intermittent laughter oozed from its gaping mouth.
Chu Muge thought it was probably laughing.
The fatty folds on its face wrinkled together, curling its torn lips into a wavy smile, revealing sharp teeth and a thick stench of blood and decay.
After a brief silence, Chu Muge grabbed her long knife and ran.
Simultaneously, the mutant let out a rabid howl, thrashing its body. The wooden stair railings groaned under the weight and snapped with a crisp sound as it heaved its massive weight forward.
It freed itself from the tight space, lumbering to its feet and chasing after the fleeing Chu Muge, its mouth open in a roar.
Thud, thud, thud...
Each step was like an earthquake, shaking the floor and breaking everything.
Chu Muge dodged the mutant’s tongue lashing out behind her, and in a split second, she grabbed it.
Sticky and pulsating with veins, utterly disgusting.
Without hesitation, she swung her long knife, cleanly severing the tongue.
Dark green fluid spurted from the wound, and the mutant’s eyes bulged as it let out a piercing scream.
Chu Muge’s eardrums ached, and she winced, continuing her dash toward the bedroom.
Technically, she shouldn’t go, but there was a lighter in the bedroom. Without it, there was no other way to kill this monster.
The mutant’s seemingly cumbersome fat was actually its best armor. Chu Muge figured even if she hacked at it with her knife, she’d only cut through the fat and then get her head bitten off.
Why did I let the matches fall earlier...
Inwardly, she squatted down, hugging her head in despair.
Now she had to use the lighter.
Chu Muge didn't want to because igniting the gasoline on the monster up close was risky. The ensuing flames could turn into a raging inferno and potentially engulf her, causing severe backlash.
But she had no other choice now.
Quickly opening the bedroom door, Chu Muge waved her long sleeve at Gu Yao, smiling, “Hi, Senior.”
Gu Yao: ...
Girl, stop saying hi! I can hear that big guy’s heavy, rapid footsteps! Ahh! qwq
Chu Muge calmly opened the bedside table and took out the lighter.
Exhaling deeply, she looked at the lighter in her hand and winked at Gu Yao, “Senior, if I get burned later, don’t find me ugly…”
Barbie dolls can't talk, and Barbie dolls don't want to talk anyway. Gu Yao thought.
The heavy footsteps grew closer, signaling the mutant’s approach. Chu Muge tightened her grip on the lighter, listening intently.
When the footsteps were as clear as possible, they suddenly stopped.
An eerie silence fell, with only Chu Muge’s pounding heartbeat and the patter of rain outside breaking the stillness.
The calm before the storm.
After the symphony’s silent prelude, the climax arrived.
Suddenly, a thunderous crash. Drums sounded, accompanied by violins, pianos, and saxophones playing in unison.
Chu Muge watched as the black screen of the TV across from the bed was punched through. Fat arms broke through the wall, and a cloudy gray eye peered into the room.
It first saw Chu Muge holding her long knife, then shifted its gaze to Gu Yao on the bed.
“Hoo...hoo...”
A low laugh emanated from its vocal cords, its entire focus now on Gu Yao, a glint of greed in its eyes.
Greed.
Chu Muge could see this human-like emotion in the mutant zombie’s eyes, as if it were a living being, hungrily watching...
Her senior.
Her hands tightened, dark mist swirling in Chu Muge’s eyes.
So disgusting, so disgusting, so disgusting...
Don’t look.
Her body moved before her mind could react. In a blink, Chu Muge had expressionlessly raised her long knife and stabbed it into the mutant’s rotating eyeball.
Splat.
Eye fluid gushed out, and the mutant screamed in agony, turning into a frenzied maniac, wildly smashing its fists against the walls.
The walls crumbled easily, hole after hole, until the entire section collapsed with a loud crash.
Amid the flying dust, its silhouette flickered.
Now.
Chu Muge, as nimble as a cat, raised her lighter and swiftly approached the mutant.
At the same time, the mutant glared with its bloodshot single eye, raising a massive arm like a mountain, ready to crush Chu Muge’s head.
If it hit, she’d be dead on the spot, head burst open, becoming a headless corpse.
In Gu Yao’s eyes, everything seemed to freeze.
The dust in the air, the monster’s gaping maw, and Chu Muge’s expressionless face holding the lighter—all motionless.
Her world fell into a standstill, even the noise of the torrential rain vanished.
Amidst it all, she faintly heard a whisper by her ear:
“Catch it.”
...Catch what?
Her brain buzzed, and in a daze, the colorful world before her eyes faded to gray.
Gu Yao watched a faintly glowing thread emerge from the mutant’s bloated head, extending shakily towards her, piercing into her body in an instant.
A sharp headache struck, as if her head was about to explode.
Gu Yao endured the pain, but her mind was clear about one thing.
It was too powerful; she couldn't control it.
However...
As if by instinct, she said in her mind:
"Stop."
The patter of rain outside the window resumed, filling the previously gray and white world with color. Time began to flow normally again. The mutant's muscles tensed as it roared and swung its arm down heavily, but at a certain moment, it suddenly and awkwardly stopped its movement.
At the same time, Chu Muge expressionlessly pressed the back of the lighter against its gasoline-soaked skin.
"Click."
The flint was struck against the steel wheel, generating friction and heat, and then...
Ignited a fire.
Boom!
The roaring flames engulfed the mutant's fat-laden body in an instant, crackling and spitting hot oil. The scorching air spread outwards, with fire snakes viciously snapping at Chu Muge as they rushed towards her.
Chu Muge couldn't keep her eyes open in the heat wave, so she retreated several steps and shielded her face with her arm - she couldn't afford to become deformed!
The mutant, now a massive fireball in the burning gasoline, let out a piercing scream of pain. The flames were blindingly bright, and it started to smash everything around it in a frenzy, charging recklessly in all directions.
The smell of burning flesh grew more pungent.
Despite the heavy rain outside, the mutant broke through the wall and jumped from the second floor, howling in agony as it crashed onto the roof of an abandoned vehicle below, leaving a huge dent.
In the pitch-black rainy night, it became the brightest light, the flames reflecting in the puddles and illuminating the surroundings in stark contrast.
Even in the pouring rain, the flames burning on the gasoline weren't extinguished.
It twisted its body, revealing the charred black bones within, its pink skin turning to an ashen gray with expanded pores, and finally becoming a stinging charred black.
Chu Muge stood silently on the second floor, looking at the large hole created by the mutant. She said nothing as the fierce wind blew the raindrops into the wall-less room, splashing on her face.
When the painful howling below completely stopped, Chu Muge wiped the rain off her face with her hand, shook her wet hair, and expressed her first thought after roasting the mutant:
"Finally, we can go to the mall."
